Wee Gather is a San Diego-based event design studio, led by owner and Creative Director Andrea Laparra. Every celebration starts the same way here — not with a theme, but with a feeling worth building a room around.
Our Story
A leap of faith, seven years running
Wee Gather began in 2017 as a children’s party studio founded by a friend. I had already spent about a decade decorating parties, mostly as a hobby and for friends, so when she decided to sell, I stepped in as its second owner in December 2019. Just months later, the COVID-19 pandemic arrived, gatherings were discouraged, and the entire event industry was uncertain. I didn’t know exactly how it would work, but I believed in celebrating life’s milestones, even in the hardest seasons.
Around the same time, I became a mom. Milestones suddenly meant so much more, and I realized how quickly childhood passes. That perspective still shapes every event I design.
My background is in education, not events, and it still shapes how I work. As educators, we build environments where people feel safe, excited, and engaged. I approach a celebration the same way: every detail tells a story, in service of a feeling, not just a photo.
When our studio doors had to stay closed, we took the celebrations to families instead: drive-by baby showers, socially distanced birthdays, small moments of connection when people needed them most. That season taught me something I still build every event around. People don’t remember every decoration, but they always remember how a celebration made them feel.
What started as a necessity became our future. Last year I closed the chapter on our party studio, and today Wee Gather is fully off-site, transforming homes, backyards, private venues, and one-of-a-kind spaces across San Diego and beyond into celebrations designed entirely around you.
Outside of Wee Gather, you’ll usually find me outdoors: hiking with my family, catching a sunset, or at a Padres game with my kids. I also founded Wild Peaks Collective, a nonprofit nature-based microschool, built on the same belief that thoughtful environments help people feel connected and present.
